Antler Farms® Grass Fed Whey Protein Isolate begins with high grade dairy from grass fed cows. Our cows are raised in the Canterbury region of beautiful New Zealand. They roam outdoors, exposed to fresh air and sunlight, and feed on green pasture year round. These ideal living conditions for cows are the cornerstone for raising cows that are naturally robust and healthy.
Cows are ruminants, a type of animal with multiple stomachs. Their digestive system is specifically designed to absorb nutrients from fresh grass. When a cow eats an appropriate diet of green grass, they maintain an ideal body composition and stay in optimal health.
It is well known that beef and dairy products sourced from grass fed cows are significantly higher in nutritional value than grain fed cows. Our grass fed whey protein, derived from grass fed cow’s milk, is loaded with protein,

In the United States, factory farming accounts for 99% of all farmed animals and 80% of cows. Factory farmed cows are confined to feed lots (called Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations, or CAFOs) where they are fed corn and meat byproducts. Corn and meat are very different from grass, and getting nutrients from them requires a different digestive system than what cows have.
There are no health benefits to a cow when it is fed grain or corn. In fact, the body composition of a healthy cow becomes unhealthy when its diet is switched from grass to grain. Studies show that cows fed high-grain diets have a higher incidence of metabolic disorders than grass fed cows. This is caused by the build-up of toxic, inflammatory and unnatural compounds in the cow’s rumen.
Furthermore, factory farmed cows are pumped full of growth hormones and antibiotics. Most cows in the USA are injected with recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH), also known as recombinant bovine somatropin (rBST). rBGH is a genetically engineered hormone developed by Monsanto to stimulate growth and milk production. Antibiotics are needed to keep factory farmed cows from getting sick in a CAFO's crowded, filthy living conditions.

New Zealand is the most advanced dairy producer in the world, operating under strict guidelines for the husbandry and general care of its livestock. The use of rBGH is completely banned in New Zealand. In fact, all dairy products from New Zealand are legally required to be free of hormones. How is Antler Farms® Grass Fed Whey Protein Isolate Processed?
Antler Farms® Grass Fed Whey Protein Isolate has high protein content with high bioavailability. Our protein is cold processed to preserve the biological nature of protein.
Our whey protein isolate is cold processed using a technologically advanced ion exchange and ultra-filtration technique. Unlike traditional methods of ion exchange, our state of the art processing does not use heat, chemicals or acid.
Whey protein is a complex protein made up of many smaller protein subfractions such as alpha-lactalbumin, beta-lactoglobulin, glycomacropeptides, immunoglobulins (IgGs), bovine serum albumin (BSA) and proteose peptone 5. There are also minor peptides such as lactoperoxidases, lysozyme and lactoferrin. Each of the sub fractions found in whey protein has its own unique biological properties.
Our process isolates and purifies protein subfractions and peptides while preserving the biological nature of the protein. It increases the protein concentration to 93% and removes almost all lactose and fat.
Most commercial whey protein powders are heat-treated, bleached, acid-flushed, and thus, become stripped of its biological activity.
Processing whey protein without losing its biological activity takes special care and knowledge. Methods that use heat or acid can cause
denaturation – a process in which protein loses its molecular structure. Denaturation destroys the protein’s biological nature, degrades the protein quality, and reduces the protein content. Antler Farms® Grass Fed Whey Protein Isolate retains its protein's biological nature (undenatured protein).
Additionally, Antler Farms® Grass Fed Whey Protein Isolate is screened for biological impurities such as E.coli, yeast, mold and salmonella, and tested for allergens such as gluten and soy.
Why is Protein Important for Health?
The importance of protein in human nutrition has been known for a very long time. Protein comprises about 12-15% of our body’s mass. Protein molecules make up much of the fabric in our bodies, including bone, muscle, cartilage, ligaments, skin and blood. They are present in every living cell, and required for almost every cellular function our bodies perform. Thus, proteins are one of the most important nutrients required by your body.
Protein is a "macronutrient," meaning that the body needs relatively large amounts of it to function properly.

How Much Protein Do I Need?
The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein for the average adult is 0.36 grams per pound of body weight per day. However, this is based upon the minimum protein intake required to avoid progressive loss of lean body mass for an average person. In other words, it is the amount of protein needed to avoid a protein deficiency for a sedentary individual.
For active individuals, many factors need to be considered to determine the optimal amount of protein one should consume, including: protein quality, energy intake, carbohydrate intake, mode and intensity of exercise, and the timing of the protein intake.
In addition to active individuals, others who are at risk for protein deficiency include the elderly, people who have an injury, people who are under a lot of stress, and those who are on a restricted calorie diet.
Some signs of protein deficiency include: excessive joint and muscle soreness; slow recovery from injuries; unhealthy hair, skin and nails; frequent sickness due to poor immune system; constant food cravings; inability to think clearly for long periods of time; and fluid retention.
